Cruising is dinghy sailing without the competition.
Many members enjoy a trip down the river for the pure enjoyment of a pleasant sail. Reefed sails mean that a boat can still venture out even when windy; the river provides a safe environment where the worst only means getting stuck on the bank - and, occasionally, a walk home. However, this is rare as the river offers sheltered areas and a well equipped cruising dinghy would have paddles, an anchor, bucket, maybe a pole and oars. (And perhaps a 1st Aid kit, spare lines, mobile phone, a drink and even spare clothes.)
Members are able to sail at most times but must use their judgment about their ability and the prevailing weather conditions
