REGENERATION COMES TO TOWN

A vision has been unveiled for the regeneration of the area around the mouth of the River Weaver - with Runcorn and Frodsham residents invited to find out more at a series of information sessions this month.

Over the coming years the ambitious project's goal is to enhance the area between Runcorn and Frodsham by transforming derelict land, improving the environment for wildlife and making the Mouth of the Weaver a better place to live and work.

The vision has been developed by a wide range of organisations, including Cheshire County Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and Halton Borough Council.

Paul Nolan, Director of environmental regeneration initiative The Mersey Forest, one of the partners in the project, explains: "A masterplan has been created which sets out some of the exciting long-term possibilities for the area. The masterplan received a commendation at the annual Landscape Institute Awards in November last year, and presents an aspirational overview of the way that the area may take shape."

Residents are informed that regeneration will not happen all at once, and that the next stage will see funding discussed and opportunities provided for people living and working in the area to comment on proposals and have their say.

You can find out more about the proposed regeneration of the Mouth of the Weaver by coming along to one of three drop-in sessions to be held in the area:

10am to 2pm, Thursday 15th March 2007 at Frodsham Market, Frodsham

10am to 12 noon, Sunday 18th March 2007 at Runcorn Hill Visitor Centre, off Highlands Road, Runcorn

7pm to 9pm, Monday 19th March 2007 at Beechwood Community Centre, Beechwood Avenue, Runcorn

Other organisations involved in the project include Action Weaver Valley, The Mersey Forest, Northwest Regional Development Agency, Forestry Commission, Natural England, Chemicals Northwest and Mersey Waterfront.
